The Brunswick Police Department is divided into three distinct operational groups with each having different responsibilities. These groups work together to ensure that the day-to-day operations of the department run smoothly. The Commanders of each of these divisions reports directly to the Chief of Police. The Chief of Police also has a small group of employees who report directly to him. The Patrol Services Division handles most of the daily police work and are the people that come in contact with citizens most often. The street patrol officers, who work twelve hours shifts, respond to calls from citizens and patrol assigned zones. Also assigned to Patrol Services is Traffic Enforcement, the A/P Squad, and Citizens and Police Against Crime (C.A.P.A.C.) who patrol public housing properties. The Investigative Services Division incorporates Criminal Investigations and the Glynn-Brunswick Narcotics Enforcement Team (GBNET). Criminal Investigations is responsible for the follow up investigation of crimes committed against persons or property and certain financial crimes. Some of these crimes include homicides, sexual assaults, burglaries, armed robberies, counterfeiting, identity theft and stalking. GBNET's purpose is to combat drugs and drug-related crimes. The department's Support Services Division encompasses many of the specialized support functions and community service relations operations of the department. This includes Records, Training, the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) program, Code Enforcement, Recruiting, and Community Services officers as well as the SWAT team and Honor Guard.
